Mycorrhizae Mural by Zak Worth

  • by

Zak Worth and participants from RCS Empowers collaborated to create the mural you see above. After developing a geometric design, the lines were transferred onto large panels and then cut into forty-six pieces. During workshops at RCS, participants used markers to add color, texture, line, and pattern to the triangular forms. Warriner High School students assisted Zak in painting the yellow background.

Worth titled the final piece Mycorrhizae. Mycorrhizae are the recently discovered, underground networks of fungal threads that connect trees. This connection allows the trees to share nutrients and information with each other creating a system of mutual support and cooperation.
